The i-tech programme has been developed by the School of Construction Management and Engineering at the University of Reading.
The framework has been designed to reorient conventional construction education from its past of functional specialisation to the technological, management and cultural needs required to deliver technologically complex systems to standards of zero defects and accidents. By clustering the sub-systems of a building into sets which, when complete, provide a wholly functioning part of the building a more precise approach to the value generation from all of the inputs can be achieved.
The approach has been tested in the Building Down Barriers project and is now being adopted in major property developments. It is now time to consolidate this into an exciting and effective delivery approach.
This programme framework gives purpose and structure to supply chain management, integration, collaborative working, design management and all of the other fashionable management solutions. None are solutions in themselves, but each has a role in a well developed project delivery organisation.
i-WASP provides the core knowledge base to support project teams implementing the i-tech programme.
